SLU, Spiders Square Off

The Saint Louis University Billikens look to keep pace atop the Atlantic 10 standings when they welcome the Richmond Spiders to Chaifetz Arena this afternoon.

SLU is 4-0 in league play, joining George Mason and Dayton as undefeated teams in conference play.

Billikens Keep Rolling

The Billikens have now won 10 consecutive games, which is their longest streak since the 2013-14 team won a school-record 19 in a row. A victory today would likely vault the Bills into the Top 25 in the AP poll, as they entered this week as the top team receiving votes to not make it into the poll..

SLU is coming off yet another comfortable win, 78-56 over Fordham this past Wednesday. The Billikens lead the country in scoring margin at +25.2.

Dangerous Spiders

If you’re a SLU fan, don’t take Richmond for granted. The Spiders are a dangerous team with a Quad 1 victory on their resume (a win at Belmont) and a 3-1 record in true road games.

One of the reasons Richmond can be a scary matchup is the Spiders can light it up from deep. They rank 8th in the nation by hitting 39.6% of their three-point attempts.

My Lean

I have no interest in wagering my hard-earned money against the Billikens with how dominant they’ve been, but gun to my head, I would actually side with Richmond to cover the spread.

I’m trying to anticipate spots where SLU faces a close game and has to grind out a win, and I think we could be in for one of those kinds of games today. The Billikens have faced barely any adversity at home this season, but as referenced above, the Spiders can be a dangerous opponent with how well they shoot the rock from beyond the arc.

My gut tells me we are in for a sweaty afternoon at Chaifetz. I do expect SLU to come out on top but Richmond to stay inside the number.

Lean: Richmond +14.5 at +100 on DraftKings
