Cards, Brewers Meet Again
The St. Louis Cardinals begin their final home series of the season tonight when they welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to town for the first of a three-game set.
The Redbirds need to win tonight in order to avoid falling to a season-worst 6 games under .500. Meanwhile, the Brewers lead the Cubs by 6 games in the NL Central and have a magic number of 4 to clinch the division title.
Cards’ Bats Quiet
The Cards’ offense continues to be anemic down the stretch. They managed just 11 runs in dropping two of three to the Reds earlier this week. The Cardinals are averaging just 3.48 runs per game over their last 21 contests, and they have scored more than 4 runs just 4 times during that span.
Sonny Gray gets the ball tonight for the Redbirds. He has a 6.46 ERA in 3 starts against the Brewers this season, but he was decent pitching at Milwaukee last weekend with 5 innings of work while allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts.
Brewers Just Keep On Winning
The Brewers continue to roll, as they are coming off a three-game sweep of the Angels earlier this week by a combined score of 23-6. Milwaukee has the best record in baseball at 94-59 and leads Philadelphia by 3 games in the race for home field advantage throughout the MLB playoffs.
The Cardinals will face Jacob Misiorowski tonight for the second time in less than a week. The rookie right-hander has fallen back down to earth since a blistering start to his big league career, as he has a 6.16 ERA in 7 starts since July 25th.
My Pick
I think of all three games this weekend, this is the Cardinals’ best opportunity to pick up a win.
But instead of focusing on tonight’s matchup, I think the best bet for this weekend lies with the Brewers to win the series by taking at least two out of three.
I think the price of -150 on that offers up some value, as the Brewers continue to surge toward the postseason while the Cardinals are just meandering their way to the finish line. Those are implied odds of Milwaukee winning this series 60% of the time. With where these teams are at here on September 19th, I think that should be around a 67% probability. So I recommend betting the Brewers to win this series.
Pick: Brewers to win the series at -150 on DraftKings (bet to -160)
