Cards Aim To Snap Skid

The St. Louis Cardinals hope to snap a four-game losing streak when they continue their series tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Redbirds’ losing skid began just as soon as they got back to the .500 mark. Incredibly if they were still at the .500 mark today, they would only be 2 games out of a playoff spot.

Sonny Saturday In Milwaukee

The Cards give the ball to Sonny Gray tonight. The right-hander uncharacteristically has issued too many free passes over his last three starts with 10 walks in 18.1 innings. He had previously only walked 25 batters in 145.1 innings.

Gray has had a rough second half with a 6.31 ERA in 10 starts. He has also struggled at American Family Field since joining the Cardinals with a 7.16 ERA in 3 outings.

Misiorowski Makes The Start

The Brewers counter with Jacob Misiorowski, who has found things a bit more difficult since his controversial All Star selection. The rookie right-hander had a 2.81 ERA in 5 starts before heading to the All Star Game. Since then, Misiorowski has posted a 5.22 ERA in 7 games.

Misiorowski did get things right in his last start by pitching 7 innings of 1-run ball with 8 strikeouts in a win over the Pirates. He also dominated the Cardinals in his Major League debut with 5 scoreless and hitless innings.

My Pick

The Cards have done nothing offensively lately with an average of just 3.19 runs scored over their last 16 games. Misiorowski has regressed here in the second half, but the Cardinals looked hopeless at the plate when they faced him back in June. They’ll have to prove to me they can hit this guy before I can back them.

I also don’t trust Gray on the road tonight where he has a 5.24 ERA in 10 starts this season.

We have one team here that is trying to protect the best record in baseball on their quest to earn homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, while the other is showing signs of starting to pack it in and hoping to just get to the finish line. Back the Brew Crew here.

Pick: Brewers -1 at -116 on DraftKings
