CITY Back On The Road
St. Louis CITY SC heads north of the border to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.
The two clubs played to a scoreless draw in St. Louis back on April 19th. That was the last time CITY kept a clean sheet.
CITY Leaking Goals
It has now been 17 consecutive games that CITY has conceded at least one goal since that draw with Vancouver. They are giving up an average of 2.24 goals per game during that stretch.
CITY continues to be plagued by late goals, as they blew a second half lead last week in a 3-2 loss at Chicago. CITY has been brutal on the road this season with a record of 1W-10L-2D away from home, including 8 straight losses.
Whitecaps Strong Defensively
Vancouver heads into this match in third place in the Western Conference with 46 points. They are tied for third in the conference with 44 goals scored on the season.
The Whitecaps particularly excel defensively. Only one team in MLS has given up fewer goals this season than Vancouver, as they have conceded just 29 times in 26 games.
My Pick
I like Vancouver -1 here, but if you agree with me, I would take this now because this line is on the move. It was -115 on DraftKings yesterday, but it’s up to -140 this morning and that’s as high as I would go.
Similar to last week when CITY was a one-goal underdog, I’m asking myself what is more likely - Vancouver to win by two goals, or for the game to end in a draw?
To me, the answer is definitely the former option instead of the latter.
Vancouver should score at least twice here with their overall offensive quality this season and CITY’s poor defensive form. And I’m not convinced CITY can score with the Whitecaps being so stingy defensively.
Vancouver winning by one goal would result in a push, so CITY has to get a result here in order for me to lose money. I just don’t see that happening.
Pick: Vancouver Whitecaps -1 at -140 on DraftKings (would not lay higher odds than that)
