Late Rally Powers Cardinals Past Orioles 7-4

The St. Louis Cardinals (31-24) pulled off a come-from-behind 7-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles (19-35) on Tuesday night at Camden Yards, sparked by Nolan Arenado’s clutch go-ahead home run in the 8th inning. The victory pushes the Cardinals back to seven games over .500, tying their season high.

1st Inning 

The Cardinals struck early with three singles from Lars Nootbaar, Iván Herrera and Willson Contreras, giving St. Louis a 1-0 lead.

2nd Inning 

After a walk to Jordan Walker, Nootbaar crushed a 388-foot, two-run homer to right-center to make it 3-0 Cardinals.

4th Inning 

Baltimore responded after Ryan Mountcastle’s second leadoff double of the game. A walk and a fielder’s choice loaded the bases before Heston Kjerstad drove in a run on another fielder’s choice, cutting the lead to 3-1.

5th Inning 

Ramón Urías reached on a slow roller to third and advanced on a wild pitch. After a walk and a balk, Ryan O’Hearn delivered the blow with a three-run homer to center, giving the Orioles their first lead at 4-3.

7th Inning 

Victor Scott II drew a walk and came around to score after back-to-back singles from Nootbaar and Masyn Winn, tying it at 4-4.

8th Inning 

Arenado broke the tie with a towering solo shot to center, reclaiming the lead for St. Louis. 

The rally continued with back-to-back triples from Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker, and Winn capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 7-4.

Stats and Notes

Lars Nootbaar leads the team with eight home runs, hitting his first since May 14.

After starting 1-11 on the road, the Cardinals have gone 11-6 in their last 17 away games.

Ryan Helsley closed out the game with his 11th save of the season on 13 tries.

St. Louis recorded five extra-base hits for the 10th time this year—they're 8-2 in those games.
