Blues Look To End Slide

The St. Louis Blues hope to end their three-game losing streak when they meet the Flyers tonight in Philadelphia.

The skid started with a 6-5 shootout loss to Philadelphia last Friday, and it has continued with a regulation loss against Vegas and an overtime defeat at Toronto.

Blues Struggling In Regulation And OT

Only the Predators and Flames have fewer points in the NHL than the Blues, and one of the issues has been not being able to pick up the extra point when a game heads to overtime.

The Blues have dropped all five OT games this season, with three of the losses coming in the five-minute 3-on-3 session and the two others coming in a shootout where the Blues have yet to score a goal let alone emerge victorious.

Flyers Back Home

The Flyers return to their home ice well-rested after last playing in a 5-1 loss at Dallas this past Saturday. Philadelphia has been good at home this season with a record of 6-3-2.

The Flyers have had a lot of low-scoring matchups, as they rank 29th in the NHL in goals scored per game and 10th in fewest goals against.

My Pick

I’m tempted by the over after seeing 11 goals when these teams met last week, but I’m going to pass due to Philadelphia’s season-long stats.

I actually think the Flyers are worth a bet tonight in large part because of the edge they’ll have if this game goes to overtime, and in a game that’s expected to be tight with a low total of 5.5, there’s a decent chance that happens.

I referenced the Blues’ futility in overtime and shootouts above. Meanwhile, the Flyers have an incredible weapon they can deploy in a shootout in Trevor Zegras. The Philadelphia forward scored the lone goal in the shootout last week in St. Louis, and in his career, Zegras is 16-for-24 (66.7%) in shootouts - that’s the best mark all-time among players with over 20 attempts.

Hopefully I’m wrong and the Blues can get back on track with the return of Jake Neighbours to the lineup, but I think the Flyers are the right side in this one.

Pick: Flyers on the moneyline at -125 on DraftKings (bet to -130)
