The St. Louis Blues have secured a key piece of their blue line for the foreseeable future, announcing a three-year contract extension for veteran defenseman Cam Fowler on Friday evening. The deal, which carries average annual value (AAV) of $6.1 million, ensures the 33-year-old blueliner remains in the Gateway City through the 2027-28 season.
His next contract begins for the 2026-27 season and expires at the end of the 2028-29 season. The contract will have a full no-trade clause for the first two seasons of the contract extension, then move to a modified no-trade clause where it will convert to a 15-team modified no-trade clause on January 1, 2029.
Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong made the announcement, highlighting Fowler's immediate impact since joining the team. "It was a situation where I looked at what we need right now as the Blues organization what he provides,” Armstrong said in a statement. “Obviously, there’s risk on all contracts, but he’s such a good skater, I think he’ll the term of this contract with his legs."
Fowler was acquired by the Blues in a trade from the Anaheim Ducks on December 14, 2024, and quickly proved his worth. In 51 regular-season games with St. Louis last season, the Windsor, Ontario native tallied 36 points (nine goals and 27 assists) while accumulating just eight penalty minutes. His production placed him 10th among all NHL defensemen in total points and fourth in even-strength points with 28.

The postseason is where Fowler truly shone, appearing in all seven of the Blues' playoff games and setting a franchise record for points by a defenseman in a single series. His 10 points (two goals and eight assists) were instrumental in St. Louis' playoff push, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.
Originally selected by the Ducks in the first round (12th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Fowler has established himself as one of the league's most consistent offensive defensemen over his 15-year career. In 1,042 regular-season games split between Anaheim and St. Louis, he has amassed 493 points (105 goals and 388 assists). His playoff resume is equally impressive, with 43 points (eight goals and 35 assists) in 69 career postseason contests.
As the Blues look to build on last season's momentum, Fowler's extension provides stability and veteran presence to a defense group that includes emerging talents and fellow trade acquisitions. With training camp underway and the 2025-26 season opener just weeks away, St. Louis fans can expect Fowler to continue anchoring the backend while contributing offensively.
