CITY Off To California
St. Louis CITY SC looks to continue their mastery of the San Jose Earthquakes when the two clubs meet on Saturday night in California.
CITY has won all five head-to-head meetings with the Quakes, including a 2-1 victory in David Critchley’s first game in charge back on May 31st.
CITY Gets Monkey Off Their Back
CITY got off the schneid in a couple different ways with last weekend’s 2-0 win at Montréal. It was their first road victory since March 9th and their first clean sheet since April 19th, ending a streak of 20 consecutive games where they conceded at least one goal.
CITY has also had two straight games finish under 2.5 goals. That’s the first time that has happened since Critchley took over.
San Jose Struggling
The Earthquakes are desperately trying to hang onto a playoff berth, as they currently hold the final spot in the Western Conference.
Unfortunately for San Jose, they’ve been in poor form lately. The Earthquakes have only 3 wins in their last 14 games overall, and they’ve only won 1 of their past 8 home games.
My Lean
After getting the monkey off their back in Montréal, I like CITY’s chances of getting a result here in San Jose.
Despite the poor season, CITY has typically been right in the thick of games with Critchley at the helm. In 15 matches, they have only been beaten by multiple goals twice. So I certainly expect CITY to keep this close, and I think they can grab at least a point against a team that hasn’t been in good form for quite a while now.
