Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn posts encouraging Instagram update after car accident (St Louis Cardinals)

Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn had the walk-off hit in the team's win over the Mets on Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium, but an unfortunate situation arrived for Winn following the game.

Reports late Wednesday night began to circulate that Winn had been involved in a single-car accident on I-64 in St. Louis, with the Cardinals releasing a statement to some media outlets detailing that Winn was "OK" after being attended to by local police as well as Cardinals security and medical staff. Wet pavement after a rainy Wednesday throughout the St. Louis area was labeled as the culprit in the accident.

While the information that Winn didn't seem to be in any serious condition was appreciated by Cardinals Nation on Wednesday night, the update that came directly from Winn himself on Thursday was even more encouraging.

Winn posted to Instagram a photo of a vehicle with clear front-end damage, adding a caption that addressed those who were still wondering about his overall condition.

"For everyone wondering... I'm feeling great! Car is a little banged up but nothing that can't be replaced! Big thanks to our security team and first responders for taking care of me! See yall on the field soon!"

Now, whether that return to the field "soon" means as early as the Cardinals' next game on Friday afternoon in Detroit remains to be seen. It would not be surprise to see Winn's availability in the short-term impacted in some way given the circumstances of how that vehicle is looking in the photo he posted.

Of course, anyone who has been around the Gold Glove shortstop for any period of time knows just how much he values being on the field for every possible opportunity that he has to play the game of baseball while representing the Cardinals.

So, while the exact ramifications of Wednesday's incident aren't entirely clear yet -- the Cardinals fly to Detroit on the off-day Thursday -- it seems that Winn has, thankfully, avoided any serious bodily harm as the result of a scary situation.
