Cards Look To Build Momentum

After last night’s walk-off home run from Alec Burleson, the St. Louis Cardinals return to action tonight when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second of a four-game series.

The home win was much needed for the Redbirds, as they had been 4-10 in their last 14 games at Busch Stadium. The Pirates meanwhile hold the second-worst road record in MLB at 18-45.

Pallante Needs Bounceback

Andre Pallante heads to the hill for the Cards looking to end one of his worst stretches of the season. The right-hander has lost each of his last three starts while getting pummeled for 15 runs and 21 hits with 7 walks in just 12 innings of work.

Pallante faced Pittsburgh one other time this season and was terrific in tossing 7 shutout innings with just 1 hit allowed on July 1st. He has loved facing the Pirates in his career with a 2.20 ERA in 17 games (4 starts).

Keller Faces Cardinals… Again

The Cardinals will go up against Mitch Keller once again this evening. The right-hander has given the Redbirds fits this season with a 1.33 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 20.1 innings covering 3 starts. He has pitched well against the Cards with a 3.19 ERA in 16 career starts.

Much like Pallante, it has been a struggle for Keller lately. He has lost his last two starts while getting rocked for 11 runs and 15 hits in 7.1 innings.

My Lean

This is a really tough game to call. You have two pitchers that have had great success against their opponent, but they are both really struggling currently.

If forced to make a pick, I would side with the Cardinals to win. I continue to be impressed with their current offensive form. The Redbirds are averaging 5.67 runs over their last 9 games, and it has been a consistent stretch with their highest total in that span being 8 runs.

Plus the Pirates have been a trainwreck on the road this season, so it’s never a bad idea to fade them when they’re away from home.

Lean: Cardinals on the moneyline at -131 on DraftKings
