Cards Go For Series Win
The St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins play the second of their three-game set tonight at Busch Stadium.
The Redbirds rolled to an easy 7-1 victory in last night’s series opener to cover the -1.5 run line, which is a market the Marlins have been very profitable in this season. Miami is 62-43 on the run line, including 34-18 on the road.
Gray To Get Back On Track?
Sonny Gray will look to rebound after getting ripped apart in his last two starts against the Diamondbacks and Padres. The right-hander pitched a combined 8.1 innings while getting crushed for 16 runs (14 earned) on 22 hits to bring his season ERA up to 4.33.
Gray is a big-time bounceback candidate tonight though, as he carries a 3.92 xERA, 3.02 FIP, and 2.89 xFIP.
Alcantara Back At Busch
Former Cardinal Sandy Alcantara will face his old team tonight in what could very well be his final start in a Miami uniform ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline. The right-hander has some ugly numbers this season after missing all of 2024 with injury, but he is coming off arguably his best start of the year after tossing 7 innings with no earned runs allowed last Wednesday against San Diego.
Alcantara was particularly awful through the end of May with an 8.47 ERA and a 12.2% walk rate, but his performance has improved since the start of June. Alcantara still has a 4.92 ERA in that stretch, but it comes with a 3.60 FIP and drastically decreased 4.5% walk rate.
My Lean
I had been targeting the under in this game leading into the series with two starters due for good performances, but seeing a low total of 7.5 for this game is very surprising. I thought it would at least be 8, so this is only a lean for me and will not make my Tuesday card.
But if you’re looking for some action, I think the under is the best way to go. And I don’t mind the full-game under because these two bullpens are in outstanding form. Both the Cardinals (5th at 2.83) and Marlins (4th at 2.57) rank in the top 5 in MLB in bullpen ERA over the last 30 days, and both pens are in good shape with their big guns available heading into tonight’s matchup.
Lean: Under 7.5 at -106 on DraftKings
