Cards, Dodgers Play Game Two
The St. Louis Cardinals will go for a series win when they meet the Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon at Busch Stadium.
The Redbirds won the series opener 5-0 last night, which was much needed after dropping four of their previous six games. They are just a half-game behind the Giants for the final NL Wild Card spot.
Cards Give Ball To Fedde
Erick Fedde will be on the bump today for the Cardinals. He is coming off a quality start in a loss at Texas where he pitched 6 innings of 2-run ball with 4 hits allowed, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. The Cards have now lost 4 straight games that Fedde has started.
The Redbirds have faced today’s Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto once before, and they cobbled together just two baserunners and no runs in five innings on March 30th last year.
Yamamoto Looks For Bounceback
Yamamoto is coming off a rare rough outing, albeit with it coming against the high-powered Yankees. The right-hander permitted 4 runs and 7 hits in just 3.2 innings. In his 11 previous starts this season, Yamamoto had dominated to the tune of a 1.97 ERA.
Last night marked just the fourth time this season the Dodgers have been shut out. They have won two of their three games coming off shutout losses this year, with the victories coming by scores of 8-4 and 8-1.
My Pick
My lean in this article yesterday was for the Cardinals to win, and I was happy to see that come to fruition (in particular via shutout) because I’ve been eyeing up this Saturday game for a few days now. While last night’s game screamed letdown spot for the Dodgers, this game has bounceback spot for LA written all over it.
I give Yamamoto a pass on his last start with it coming against the Yankees, who were highly motivated after being embarrassed 18-2 the day before. I would be stunned to see Yamamoto have two bad starts in a row.
And after being shut out last night, I fully expect the Dodgers to be refocused today and come out swinging. I think pitching to contact is a recipe for disaster against a team like LA, and there is going to be a ton of contact today with Fedde generating just 44 strikeouts in 68.1 innings this season.
I would endorse taking the Dodgers on the -1.5 run line today at -112. I’m going to combine it with Freddie Freeman to get at least one hit, run, or RBI in the game to essentially turn in a coupon and bring the price down to +102. Freeman has accomplished that in 82.3% of his starts this season.
Pick: Same Game Parlay priced at +102 on DraftKings - Dodgers -1.5 AND Freddie Freeman 1+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (bet to -105)
