Cardinals, Tigers Play Rubber Game

The St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers will play the rubber match of their three-game series on Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

The Redbirds suffered a 5-4 defeat on Tuesday, marking just their third loss in their past 16 games. All three of those defeats have come by just one run. The Cards haven’t lost a game by multiple runs since May 2nd against the Mets.

Cards Turn To Pallante

The Cards give the ball to Andre Pallante in the series finale. The right-hander is coming off two terrific starts in Washington and Kansas City where he pitched a combined 14.1 innings while giving up just 4 runs with no walks and 11 strikeouts.

The Cardinals are being led offensively right now by Iván Herrera. The catcher/designated hitter had two more hits on Tuesday to lift his season batting average to .439. Since coming off the injured list on May 9th, Herrera has hit safely in all 10 games he’s played in while going 17-for-36 (.472) with 4 doubles, 1 home run, 9 runs scored, and 10 RBI.

Bullpen Game For Tigers

It appears the Tigers have settled on a bullpen game for the series finale, as reliever Brant Hurter is listed as the scheduled starter. The left-hander has appeared in 13 games and pitched 23 innings with a 2.35 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts.

The bullpen has been an area of strength for the Tigers this season, as their 3.25 bullpen ERA ranked 7th in MLB heading into Tuesday’s action.

My Pick

This is a weekday afternoon getaway day game, which usually has me looking towards the first five under. That is typically an automatic bet for me if it’s a getaway day for both teams; however, that’s only the case for the Tigers and not the Cardinals in this one. I’m also seeing a projection for an 18 MPH wind blowing out to right field, so that is keeping me off the first five under.

Instead, I’m going right back to Herrera in the player prop market with the same bet I cashed in Monday’s game. I’m taking him to go over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI. If you would have made that bet in every game Herrera has started and finished this season, your record would now be 13-2.

Herrera must start and record at least one plate appearance in order for this bet to be live on DraftKings; otherwise, the bet is voided and graded as a push.

Pick: Iván Herrera over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI at -120 on DraftKings (bet to -130)
