Do Or Die For Blues

The St. Louis Blues look to stave off elimination when they host the Winnipeg Jets in Game 6 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series tonight at Enterprise Center.

The home team has won every game in this series, so the Blues hope to continue that trend and force a Game 7 in Winnipeg on Sunday night.

See Puck, Shoot Puck

I’m not convinced Connor Hellebuyck is over his playoff struggles, so the Blues would be wise to fire pucks at the net as often as possible tonight. That’s easier said than done with Winnipeg being the best defensive team in the NHL, but the Blues’ shot count has been indicative of their success against the Jets this season.

The Blues have faced Winnipeg nine times this season. In their three wins, they have averaged 28 shots per game. But in their six losses, that number drops to 21 shots per game.

Hellebuyck Still Shaky

Hellebuyck made a couple key saves in Game 5, but he still looked unsure of himself to me. Hellebuyck allowed 3 goals on 19 shots for an .842 save percentage, including a soft goal allowed to Jimmy Snuggerud.

Despite getting the win in Game 5, Hellebuyck’s trend of allowing plenty of pucks past him continued. He has now given up at least 3 goals in 13 of his last 14 playoff games.

My Pick

Considering those Hellebuyck stats, I think the best play for this game is to take the Blues team total of over 2.5 once again. That was a winning bet at plus money for me in Game 5 despite the Blues losing.

However, we are not getting as good of a price on that bet here in Game 6, as it’s listed at -135 on DraftKings.

So I’m going to take that and combine it with Justin Faulk to record at least one shot on goal to get it down to even money +100. Faulk has registered at least one shot on goal in 13 straight games going back to the regular season. In fact, three of the top four shot takers for the Blues in this series are defensemen. Keep that strategy up of getting pucks to the net, and if the Blues get to at least 25 shots on goal tonight, I expect them to send this series back to Winnipeg for Game 7.

Pick: Same Game Parlay priced at +100 on DraftKings - Blues team total over 2.5 AND Justin Faulk to record 1+ shots on goal (bet to -110)
