Battlehawks, Renegades Square Off
The St. Louis Battlehawks head down to Texas to take on the Arlington Renegades on Saturday.
This is an important game in the playoff race, as the Battlehawks and Renegades are tied for second place in the XFL Conference at 2-1. The top two teams in the conference at the end of the 10-game regular season advance to the UFL playoffs.
Battlehawks Need Bounceback
After dominating their first two games, the Battlehawks surprisingly got pushed around in last week’s 27-15 home loss to the DC Defenders. They were outgained 346-173 with just 45 yards rushing, 7 total first downs, and 4 turnovers.
Quarterback Manny Wilkins struggled by going 16-of-29 for 147 yards with three interceptions and also lost a fumble.
Arlington Plays Tough Defense
The Renegades have hung their hats on their defense so far this season, as they lead the UFL in allowing only 9.3 points per game.
Arlington is coming off a 10-9 loss at Birmingham last week. The Renegades began their season with a pair of wins - 33-9 over San Antonio and 11-9 over Houston.
My Lean
I think this game is going to be a struggle for the Battlehawks.
They have the #1 rushing attack in the UFL, but as we saw last week, their running game can be shut down against a good defense - and Arlington has the #1 rush defense in the league, allowing just 73.7 yards per game on the ground.
Arlington struggles to defend the pass with the second-worst pass defense in the UFL, but the Battlehawks are a bottom-half team in the league in passing offense.
On the other side of the ball, the Battlehawks are a bottom-half team in rush defense, while the Renegades rank second in the league in rushing offense.
If Arlington’s last two games are any indication, this could be an ugly, low-scoring game. If forced to bet this one, I think the under would be the way to go.
