Billikens Look For Win #20

The #21 Saint Louis University Billikens go for some history tonight when they host the George Washington Revolutionaries in an Atlantic 10 matchup.

With a victory, SLU would move to 20-1 and clinch the best start in program history. The 1993-94 team led by Charlie Spoonhour also started 19-1.

Metrics In Love With SLU

The word is out on SLU with the Billikens receiving all kinds of love from the national pundits. This is an elite basketball team based on the gaudy record, and the metrics back it up. Incredibly, SLU ranks #1 in the country in effective field goal percentage both offensively and defensively at KenPom.

A nationally-televised 97-62 rout of St. Bonaventure last Friday typified what the Billikens do - they take quality shots, they make quality shots, and they make it really difficult for the opponent to make shots.

GW Can Score

George Washington is one of the better offensive teams that SLU will face this season. The Revolutionaries are a top 50 team in the country in both 2-point and 3-point field goal percentage. They are also a problem on the glass, ranking 44th in the nation in offensive rebounding rate.

GW ranks second behind SLU in the A10 in points per game (85.8), scoring margin (+13.1), and 3-pointers made per game (10.1).

My Lean

These are the top two offensive teams in the conference, and that has resulted in what I feel is an inflated total.

SLU played an absolute A+ offensive game against St. Bonaventure. I expect some shooting regression tonight, but then I also think the Billikens will be due for another grade A performance on Friday when rival Dayton comes to town.

The Bills have been outstanding defensively this season, and I think they are going to welcome this challenge tonight against an explosive team in GW. The aesthetically pleasing SLU offense gets a lot of the headlines, but I think the Billikens will win this game tonight with their defense.

An improving GW defense should also help this game stay under, as the Revolutionaries have been the 4th best defensive team in A10 conference games according to KenPom.

Lean: Under 167.5 at -112 on DraftKings
