The Missouri Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners will battle it out this afternoon at Mizzou Arena.
The longtime rivals split their two meetings last season, with Missouri winning in an 82-58 rout in Columbia.
Tigers Need To Respond
The Tigers suffered a close home defeat last time out, falling 74-72 to #21 Georgia. It was their first home loss of the season and dropped them to 3-3 in SEC play.
Nothing is a must-win game in January, but realistically, Mizzou cannot lose this game today if it wants to be a serious contender for the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers start the day in the “Next Four Out” section of Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology on ESPN.com.
Sooners On A Slide
Mizzou needs to win this game today because Oklahoma isn’t beating anyone right now. The Sooners have dropped five straight games, including an 85-76 loss at South Carolina this past Tuesday.
OU has been terrible against the spread this season with a record of 6-13, including 1-7 on the road.
My Lean
This is an absolute desperation spot for the Tigers, and I just can’t see them losing back-to-back games at home in the same week. Mizzou is still 29-3 at home over the last two seasons.
One could argue Oklahoma will be desperate today too, but having watched the Sooners a couple times this season and looking at the metrics, I just don’t think they’re a good team. There will be other spots for them to turn up this season, but I don’t think this is one of them on a day when road teams are looking to get out of dodge before the bad weather hits.
Look for the Tigers to get it done today and protect home court.
