Blues Try To Snap Skid
The St. Louis Blues hope to end a three-game losing streak when they meet the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight at PPG Paints Arena.
While the Blues have played the fewest games of any team in the Central Division, they are in last place with just 7 points on the season.
Blues Need To Shore Up Defense
The defense continues to be a major problem for the Blues, as they gave up 6 unanswered goals at Detroit last time out to see a 4-0 lead turn into a 6-4 loss.
The Blues have been one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL so far this season, as their 4.13 goals allowed per game ranks second-worst in the league.
Penguins In Good Form
The Penguins are coming off a high-scoring 5-4 shootout defeat to the Blue Jackets this past Saturday, which snapped a four-game winning streak for Pittsburgh.
The Penguins rank 7th in the NHL with 3.56 goals per game this season, and they have the top-ranked power play unit with a 33.3% success rate with the man advantage. The Blues have struggled on the penalty kill, ranking 25th in the NHL (72.0%).
My Pick
The Blues are surprisingly a road favorite here, which make the Penguins on the moneyline tempting at a plus money price. But I have to believe the Blues are going to snap out of this funk sooner than later, and the Penguins are overachieving so far, as their season point total on DraftKings is set at 81.5 despite their hot start.
Instead, this game feels ripe for an over. Both teams have been profitable to the over so far this season (5-3 for St. Louis and 5-4 for Pittsburgh). The over is 4-2 when the Blues are a favorite and a perfect 3-0 in their away games, while the over is 4-2 when the Penguins are an underdog and 3-1 in their home games.
Also both meetings were high-scoring last season with the games ending 5-4 and 5-3. If it loses, it loses and I can live with that. But the data checks every box for an over.
Pick: Over 6.5 at +114 on DraftKings (bet to +100)
