The St. Louis Blues close out their four-game homestand tonight when they face the Utah Mammoth at Enterprise Center.
The Blues are 1-1-1 in this stretch after dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to the Kings on Tuesday night.
Blues Need To Respond
The Blues did not play well against Los Angeles despite getting a point, and head coach Jim Montgomery had some pointed postgame comments about the Blues’ lack of intensity. He talked about the team not getting the job done with their effort, execution, and consistency.
I expect the Blues to respond tonight, as they have after both their previous losses this season. However, the Blues are facing a tough opponent this evening.
Mammoth On A Hot Streak
The Mammoth roll into St. Louis winners of four in a row after sweeping a four-game homestand, including most recently a 4-3 overtime victory over the Avalanche on Tuesday night.
As always when the Blues play Utah, keep an eye out for Clayton Keller. The Chesterfield native has racked up 8 points in his last 3 games, and he has dominated against his hometown team in his career. Keller has posted 13 goals and 22 assists in 32 career games against the Blues.
My Pick
I really like this spot for the Blues, as I don’t see them coming out flat in back-to-back games at home. They are going to want to respond to their head coach and put on a good performance for the home fans before heading on the road
And I think this is a good spot to fade Utah. After sweeping those four home games, I could see the Mammoth being a little fat and happy here as they begin a stretch of eight of nine on the road.
Many times in hockey, you see the more desperate team come out victorious - and I’m very confident that team tonight is the Blues. I would sprinkle the -1.5 with the Blues at big plus money odds, as I see this game playing out similarly to the 3-1 win over Dallas this past Saturday night.
