Moneyline: Blues -125, Wild +105

Total: 5.5 (over -125, under +105)

The St. Louis Blues open their highly-anticipated season tonight when they take on the Minnesota Wild at Enterprise Center.

This is a big game right off the bat because these teams are once again expected to be bunched up together in the Central Division standings. The Wild’s season point total is set at 95.5 on DraftKings, while the Blues’ number is close behind at 92.5. This comes after these teams were separated by just 1 point in the standings last season.

The Blues appear ready to roll after dominating their last two preseason games by a combined score of 11-1. That included a game where Jordan Binnington stopped 36 of 37 shots, so he looks to be in midseason form already. And maybe most notably, Dylan Holloway looks terrific and fully healthy after an injury that sidelined him during last season’s playoffs.

We have seen some line movement towards the Blues in this matchup. Both teams opened at -110, but this line has been pushed up to the current price with the Blues as a -125 favorite. That’s a good sign that some smart people are betting the Blues tonight because the NHL is not getting a ton of public action at this point in the season when football is in full swing and the MLB playoffs are going on.

I recommend treading lightly when wagering early in seasons as we wait for data and trends to emerge, but if you’re itching for some action tonight, I think backing the Blues is the way to go. You never want to mess with a winning streak in sports gambling, and the Blues have now won 15 consecutive games at Enterprise Center dating back to last year’s regular season and the three playoff victories over Winnipeg.

I also think we could see some goals in this one, as the over has cashed in four of the last five meetings with these teams with an average of over 7 goals per game. So the over could be a fun way to attack tonight’s game, but if you’re going to bet it, ride with the Blues to kick off their season in style.

Lean: Blues on the moneyline at -125 on DraftKings
