We are exactly one month away from the St. Louis Blues beginning their regular season on Thursday, October 9th at home against the Minnesota Wild.
But there is a wager available at DraftKings that I recommend betting right now.
The Blues’ regular season points total is set at 92.5, and I think we are getting a few points of value on the over.
The Blues’ odds to make the playoffs are priced at -115 for both the Yes and the No, while you only have to lay -110 on the over 92.5 points.
The Blues finished last season with 96 points and needed every last one of them to make the playoffs as the final team to qualify in the Western Conference.
The 2021 NHL season was shortened to 56 games due to COVID. In the four seasons since then, it has taken an average of 96.5 points to make the playoffs in the Western Conference.
So if we assume the Blues’ chances to make the playoffs are priced correctly with both the Yes and No being a 50/50 coin flip with the same -115 odds, then logically it would make sense for their season points total to be set closer to 96.5 rather than 92.5 - meaning I think we are getting about 4 points of value with the over 92.5 points priced at -110.
Using that same logic, if you are not bullish on the Blues this season, it would make more sense for you to bet them to miss the playoffs at -115 rather than taking them to go under 92.5 points at -120.
But I head into the 2025-2026 campaign very optimistic on the Blues. I think they are a year ahead of schedule after storming their way into the playoffs this past spring, so I believe last season was just the beginning of this team being a contender for the next few years under Jim Montgomery.
I recommend taking advantage of this mathematical edge on DraftKings and betting the Blues to go over 92.5 points this season.
