Cards Continue Series With Rockies
The St. Louis Cardinals look to build off last night’s win in Colorado when they take on the Rockies in the second of a three-game set this evening.
The Redbirds won last night’s series opener 6-2 behind 7 strong innings from Michael McGreevy, as they desperately try to stay in the NL Wild Card race with the trade deadline approaching next week. However, Cardinals Nation will be feeling very uneasy tonight with Erick Fedde on the bump.
Hold Your Breath… It’s Fedde Time
Despite plenty of evidence that he should be yanked from the rotation, Fedde continues to make starts for this team - and it has been an utter disaster.
Over his last four outings, Fedde has pitched 14.2 innings and been battered for 20 runs on 26 hits with 10 walks and just 3 strikeouts - that’s a 12.27 ERA and a 2.45 WHIP.
Overall for the season, the Cardinals have a 5-14 record in Fedde starts. Say the Cards had another pitcher make those starts and went 9-10. Their record would be 56-45 and they’d currently be holding a Wild Card spot.
Blalock Getting Blasted
The hapless Rockies will send Bradley Blalock to the hill tonight. The right-hander has gotten destroyed this season to the tune of a 9.97 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 21.2 innings covering 6 games (4 starts). For his career, Blalock has a 7.57 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP in 52.1 innings.
Despite playing in the hitters haven that is Coors Field, the Rockies have been a profitable under team at home this season with the under cashing at a 54.2% rate.
My Pick
I want to hone in on fading these two starting pitchers, who are two of the worst in all of baseball.
If you go to the “1st X Innings” tab on DraftKings, there is a market for both teams to score X+ runs in the first 5 innings. You can bet both teams to score 2+ runs in the first five innings of this game at what feels like a bargain price of -125.
It would feel like a minor miracle for either starting pitcher to hold their opponent to 0 or 1 runs in the first five innings tonight, so this bet gets a wholehearted endorsement from me.
Pick: Both teams to score 2+ runs in the first five innings at -125 on DraftKings (bet to -130)
