Blues, Jets Play Pivotal Game 4
The St. Louis Blues will try to even up their Western Conference quarterfinal series with the Winnipeg Jets at two games apiece when the two teams meet Sunday afternoon at Enterprise Center.
The Blues throttled the Jets 7-2 in Game 3 as a +100 underdog with Winnipeg listed as a -120 favorite. The betting market however did not overreact to that blowout result, as the Jets are a bigger favorite in Game 4 than they were in Game 3.
Blues Streaking On Home Ice
The Blues have won 13 in a row at Enterprise Center, outscoring their opponents by an insane margin of 64-24 during that stretch. That’s an average game score of 4.92 to 1.85.
The Blues’ offense has been carried this series by their power play. They are 6-of-15 (40%) with the man-advantage through the first three games.
How’s Hellebuyck?
My big question heading into Game 4 is can Connor Hellebuyck flush the memory of Game 3 out of his mind and move on? Or do the Blues have him shook?
Hellebuyck allowed 6 goals on 25 shots before getting pulled in the third period, including a horrible giveaway behind the net that led to the hat trick goal for Pavel Buchnevich. The Jets netminder has now allowed 3 or more goals in 11 of his last 12 playoff games.
My Lean
I’m really uncertain about how this game is going to go, with the psyche of Hellebuyck being the biggest question mark. If he’s his normal self, I think we are going to have a very tight, low-scoring game with the Jets having a great chance to win. But if Hellebuyck’s historical playoff struggles have him spooked, the Blues are going to win this game and the series.
I truly think whoever wins this game is going to win the series. I just think it’s a really tough game to call from both a side and total perspective, so I’m going to be sitting this one out.
If I had to bet it, I would take the under. As of the time of this writing, 89% of the bets are on the over, which doesn’t surprise me after a 7-2 final in Game 3. The public tends to be prisoners of the moment and make betting decisions based on what they saw most recently. So I want to fade that.
I just have a feeling we are in for a nailbiter of a game - something like 2-2 at the end of regulation. I wouldn’t dissuade anyone from putting a sprinkle on this game to go to overtime, which is listed at +255 on DraftKings.
Lean: Under 5.5 at -142 on DraftKings
