Lucky Seven For Blues?
The St. Louis Blues go for their seventh straight win tonight when they wrap up a four-game homestand against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Blues are still the favorite on DraftKings to grab the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Below are the updated odds to make the playoffs for the three main contenders:
Blues +115
Flames +190
Canucks +270
Blues Look For Improved Performance
The Blues were arguably fortunate to keep their winning streak alive this past weekend. They were outshot in both games against Chicago and Nashville, but they did enough to grab two wins against two of the NHL’s worst teams.
A main key in the Blues’ 13-2-2 run over their last 17 games is the consistent performance of their offense. The Blues have scored at least three goals in 7 straight and in 16 of the 17 games during this stretch.
Canadiens Due For Positive Variance
Just like the Blues, the Canadiens are fighting for a playoff spot. Both teams currently hold the last Wild Card spot in their conference.
Montreal has played a lot of tight games lately, going 8-1-4 over its last 13 games. With a lot of overtime losses lately including each of their last two games, the Canadiens are definitely due for variance to go their way in a close matchup.
If the Canadiens are going to snap the Blues’ winning streak tonight, they will likely have to put up a lot of goals. Montreal is tied for seventh-worst in the NHL allowing 3.26 goals per game.
My Pick
I’m worried about this game. The Blues won this weekend despite not playing their best hockey, and the Canadiens are overdue for a close game to go their way.
But as the famous quote in the movie Bull Durham goes, “Never (mess) with a winning streak.”
I think the moneyline price is too high on the Blues, and I don’t want to bet on them to win in regulation because the Canadiens have lost only 1 of their last 13 games in the regular 60-minute period.
So let’s return to a Same Game Parlay on DraftKings, as I’ve cashed one of these in each of the last three Blues games.
Jordan Kyrou has recorded at least two shots on goal in 13 of the 17 games during this hot stretch for the Blues. Overall for the season if you bet Kyrou to get two shots on goal in every game, you’d be 55-17 (76.3%).
So let’s combine the Blues to win with Kyrou recording at least two shots on goal to get a plus money price on this bet. I think it’s going to be a tough game, but here’s thinking the Blues get it done once again.
Pick: Same Game Parlay priced at +102 on DraftKings - Blues on the moneyline and Jordan Kyrou to record at least two shots on goal (bet up to +100)
