The Saint Louis University Billikens look to make some history tonight when they take on the Loyola Chicago Ramblers at Chaifetz Arena.
With a victory, the Billikens would clinch at least a share of the Atlantic 10 regular season championship and also wrap up the #1 seed in next week’s conference tournament. It would be SLU’s first regular season championship since the 2013-14 season.
The Bills can also finish up a perfect 19-0 season at home with a win, which would mark their first undefeated season at Chaifetz.
It shouldn’t be much of a sweat for the Billikens to pick up an outright win tonight with them being a massive favorite, but will they cover this large number?
The line opened at SLU -27.5, but it has been bet down five points to the current number of 22.5 as of the time of this writing.
I think that’s a mix of the Billikens not playing their best basketball of late along with the betting public just not being used to seeing an enormous spread like that in a conference game.
The Bills drilled this Loyola team by 27 points last month in Chicago, so a 20+ point win has a very good chance of happening. But I also think SLU just wants to take care of business and isn’t going to be worried about running up the score. The total also doesn’t interest me because this could be a “take your foot off the gas” type of situation.
I always want to be honest with the audience and tell you what I think. I’ll never sugarcoat anything or be a homer, especially when it comes to sports gambling where you’re putting hard-earned dollars on the outcome of a game.
I have zero interest in betting this game tonight and don’t recommend any sort of play.
Rather, I think tonight should be a celebration of what this SLU team has accomplished so far this season. A regular season championship is a big deal, and this group of players and coaches should be remembered fondly for a long time no matter what happens the rest of this month - assuming the unthinkable doesn’t happen tonight with Loyola pulling the upset.
So instead of wagering on the game tonight, sit back and watch it with your favorite beverage and cheer on SLU to win straight up without being worried about the spread or total. And assuming the outcome is what we all expect, raise a glass to the 2025-26 Saint Louis University Billikens. Teams like this don’t come around very often, especially at the mid-major level. So let’s celebrate a championship tonight and then get back to being focused on how far this team can go in March.
