Blues Try To Upset Avalanche

The St. Louis Blues face their toughest challenge of the season when they go up against the Colorado Avalanche tonight in Denver on New Year’s Eve.

While the Blues are floundering around .500, the Avalanche hold the NHL’s best record.

Blues Need To Score More

The Blues continue to be a model of inconsistency, as they have alternated wins and losses in each of their last eight games.

The Blues simply aren’t scoring enough goals to make a charge up the standings. They have scored more than 3 goals just three times in their 22 games since November 15th. The Blues are averaging just 2.18 goals per game during that stretch.

Avalanche On Historic Pace

For the second straight game, the Blues face a team on an eight-game winning streak. They lost to the Sabres on Monday, and now they face a Colorado club that is on pace for the most points in NHL history after a blistering start to the season of 29-2-7.

The Avalanche are unbeaten in regulation at home this season with a record of 16-0-2.

My Pick

The Avalanche are a massive favorite in large part because of their ridiculous run at home this season where nobody has beaten them in a 60-minute game. Even if the Blues can somehow get the game to overtime, you can’t like their chances with their 0-8 record in OT this season.

I think the best way to attack this game is to use the Avalanche on the moneyline as a parlay piece and pair them up with another significant favorite you think will win straight up to bring your price down to a playable range.

Let’s have some fun over the holiday and do a two-team moneyline parlay pairing the Avalanche to beat the Blues and Indiana to beat Alabama in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. I think the Hoosiers will be able to shut down the Crimson Tide’s one-dimensional offense that really struggles to run the ball, and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza will do enough offensively to lead Indiana to a comfortable win.

Pick: Two-team moneyline parlay priced at -125 on DraftKings - Avalanche to beat the Blues on Wednesday AND Indiana to beat Alabama in the Rose Bowl on Thursday (bet to -140)
