Billikens Open A10 Play
The Saint Louis University Billikens open their Atlantic 10 Conference schedule this afternoon when they host the Saint Joseph’s Hawks.
SLU begins conference play as the favorite to win the A10 at -105 on DraftKings.
SLU Dominant At Home
The Billikens wrap up a six-game homestand today, and they have been dominant on their home floor so far this season. SLU is 10-0 at home and currently riding the longest winning streak in Chaifetz Arena history at 13 games dating back to last season.
The Billikens’ offense gets a lot of headlines, but the defense has been fantastic. SLU ranks 3rd in the country holding teams to 35.8% shooting from the floor.
Cold-Shooting Hawks
Saint Joseph’s is not a good shooting team, in particular from deep. The Hawks rank 357th out of 365 Division One teams hitting just 26.6% of their 3-point attempts.
Saint Joseph’s could pose some problems on the glass, as the Hawks lead the A10 in offensive rebounds per game.
My Pick
One thing that makes the Billikens a dangerous team is they are good in so many areas that they often can neutralize their opponents’ strengths. While Saint Joe’s is a really good offensive rebounding team, SLU ranks 8th in the country in preventing offensive rebounds.
The Hawks have not been good against the number this season, going just 3-8 against the spread. The Billikens have a real chance to hang a banner at Chaifetz this season by winning a conference title, and I think they’ll start off their A10 schedule with a comfortable win and a cover.
Pick: SLU -20.5 at -110 on DraftKings
