The Kansas City Chiefs continue their playoff push when they take on the Dallas Cowboys this afternoon on Thanksgiving.
The Chiefs picked up a massive 23-20 overtime win over the Colts last week that lifted them to 6-5 and one game behind the Chargers, Jaguars, and Bills, who all currently share the three AFC Wild Card spots at 7-4.
It was a come-from-behind victory, but Kansas City absolutely deserved to win that game. The Chiefs dominated time of possession and outgained the Colts 494-255 while holding the high-powered Indianapolis offense to only 10 first downs.
I expect Kansas City’s offense to be able to continue to have success against a Dallas defense that is improving, but still isn’t very good.
The Cowboys had a miracle 21-point comeback win over the Eagles last week, but I view that as more flukish with several Philadelphia mistakes allowing Dallas to come away with a victory.
The Chiefs don’t typically beat themselves, and their defense is playing very well, ranking 6th in the NFL in yards allowed and 4th in points allowed.
Bettors have been very thankful to fade the Cowboys on Thanksgiving over the years, as Dallas is just 3-11 against the spread over the last 14 seaons while failing to cover by an average of over 8 points per game.
And Patrick Mahomes has been money in this spot in his career. Mahomes is 14-2 in indoor games, and when facing a team on short rest, he is 19-3 - including a 13-game winning streak.
If Kansas City would have lost that game to Indianapolis last week, I think this season could have had a chance to spiral with a huge uphill climb to make the playoffs. But with that critical result, I expect the Chiefs to kick it into high gear and reel off a winning streak here down the stretch on their quest to defend their AFC Championship.
