The #16 Missouri Tigers play their first road game of the season on Saturday when they head down south to take on the Auburn Tigers.
Mizzou is looking to bounce back from last week’s close loss to Alabama, while Auburn is looking to snap a three-game skid with all of those being tight losses against ranked conference opponents.
For the second straight week, there has been significant line movement toward the Tigers of Missouri. They opened as a 1.5 point underdog, but that has flipped to where they are now a 1.5 point favorite.
As the line suggests, this should be a close game that can go either way. So I think the best betting angle for this game is on the total.
Auburn has a terrific defense. The Tigers’ close losses came at Oklahoma, at Texas A&M, and vs Georgia - which is about as tough a stretch as you’ll find in college football. Auburn’s defense did their part by allowing just 20 points per game in that span.
Auburn is particularly stingy against the run, so Beau Pribula will be forced to make some big throws - and unfortunately after watching him last week, that doesn’t inspire Missouri fans with a ton of confidence.
On the other side, Mizzou should be able to wreak all kinds of havoc in the Auburn backfield and get after quarterback Jackson Arnold. Auburn has given up 22 sacks this season - that’s the highest mark in the SEC. Missouri’s front four has been awesome and has thrived at both stopping the run and getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
And despite the loss to the Crimson Tide last week, the Missouri secondary was much improved. If they can carry that over, I don’t think Auburn can score 20 points in this one, as War Eagle’s offense is putting up only 12.3 points per game in SEC play.
The under has cashed in five straight Auburn games, and their three conference games have seen an average of just 32 points scored. I think we see another tight, low-scoring affair on Saturday night.
