Blues Play First Road Game
The St. Louis Blues begin their first road trip of the season when they meet the Calgary Flames on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues will continue their Canadian swing on Monday in Vancouver before returning home to take on the Blackhawks on Wednesday.
Blues Look To Bounce Back
The Blues hope to rebound from their season-opening clunker on Thursday, as they were embarrassed in a 5-0 shutout loss to Minnesota.
The good news is they are facing a team they have owned in recent years. The Blues are riding a six-game winning streak against the Flames, and the domination stretches back even further than that. The Blues have also won 10 of the last 11 meetings and 14 of the last 16.
Home Opener For Flames
The Flames are in a bounceback spot as well. They won their season opener 4-3 in a shootout at Edmonton, but they followed that up with a dud in a 5-1 loss at Vancouver.
Now the Flames return to Calgary for their home opener where they went 23-12-6 last season.
My Lean
I expect both teams to play well in this spot coming off woeful performances their last time out. You know the Flames will be fired up for their home opener, and I don’t think Jim Montgomery will allow his team to come out flat two straight times to open the season.
I still recommend treading lightly early in the season as we wait for data and trends to emerge, but if you’re going to bet this one, I wouldn’t want to stand in the way of the Blues and their recent dominance of the Flames. Sometimes you just own a team, and that appears to be the situation we have here.
