The Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars square off tonight on Monday Night Football to cap off a wild week in the NFL.
The betting public and many survivor pool participants got crushed this weekend, as there was heavy public action on the Rams, Giants, Ravens, Eagles, Cardinals, and Bills. All six of those teams ended up losing outright.
The public action tonight is squarely on the Chiefs with 65% of the bets on Kansas City as of the time of this writing on Monday afternoon. However, there is plenty of sharp money on the Jaguars with Jacksonville getting 53% of the money despite only 35% of the bets.
The big question surrounding the Chiefs after last week’s resounding 37-20 victory over Baltimore is… are they back?
I think the jury is still out.
The Ravens’ defense has been decimated by injuries, and they are leaking points to everyone right now as evidenced by the Texans putting up 44 on them yesterday. Baltimore has now allowed the most points in the NFL through five weeks.
So I’m not quite sure yet what to make of the Chiefs. Xavier Worthy’s return last week certainly helped the offense, but now he’s banged up again although he is expected to play tonight. I don’t think the Chiefs will find things as easy tonight in Jacksonville as they did last week in the comforts of home against a wounded opponent.
The Chiefs have also struggled against the run this season allowing 4.9 yards per carry, and they’ll be tested tonight against a Jacksonville team that loves to pound the rock. Travis Etienne Jr. is averaging 98.5 rushing yards per game, while Trevor Lawrence is averaging just 211.3 passing yards per game.
The Jaguars are also ball-hawks on defense, as they headed into Week 5 with 13 turnovers forced and a +9 turnover differential - both best in the NFL.
This has the makings of a tight game with a 3.5 point spread, and I would not be stunned to see that half-point hook come into play with the Chiefs winning by 3 points and not covering the spread. So I lean with the home dog here on Monday night. It would be a fitting end to a wild week in the NFL.
