Slumping Cards Face Reds
The St. Louis Cardinals look to get back on track tonight when they meet the Cincinnati Reds in the second of a three-game series.
The Cards are now losers of six of their last seven games after last night’s 11-6 defeat. They have now tied their season-low of being five games under .500.
McGreevy Makes The Start
Michael McGreevy will be on the bump tonight, and he has done a great job providing plenty of length lately. McGreevy has pitched 6 innings in seven of his last eight starts, including a quality start at Cincinnati on August 30th where he allowed just 1 run in a 4-2 St. Louis victory.
Nolan Arenado made a successful return to the lineup last night by going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Arenado has terrific career numbers against tonight’s Reds starter Andrew Abbott, going 8-for-18 (.444 average) with 2 home runs and a 1.252 OPS.
Abbott Dealing
Abbott is coming off one of his best starts of the season his last time out. The left-hander pitched 8 innings of 1-run ball in a 2-1 win at San Diego. He ranks 9th in all of baseball with a 2.79 ERA this year.
The Cardinals have not been able to figure out Abbott this season. In 3 starts against the Redbirds in 2025, Abbott has a 1.69 ERA in 16 innings.
My Pick
McGreevy has been solid this year. That said, I’m still having a hard time buying into him long-term as anything more than a #3 starter. McGreevy just doesn’t have enough swing-and-miss stuff in his arsenal as evidenced by his 47 strikeouts in 79 innings this season.
Abbott has shown plenty of signs this year of turning into a bonafide ace. The Cardinals have barely been able to do anything against him this season in three opportunities, and we’re getting the Reds as just a narrow favorite of -122? Sign me up.
Pick: Reds on the moneyline at -122 on DraftKings (bet to -130)
