It’s a Super Bowl rematch on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles do battle at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Eagles are currently a 1.5 point favorite, and if that line holds leading into Sunday, Patrick Mahomes will be a home underdog for just the second time in 69 career starts at Arrowhead.
Chiefs Desperate For A Win
The Chiefs have been stewing over their 27-21 season-opening loss to the Chargers in Brazil on September 5th.
The Chiefs have been excellent off a loss in recent years, as they are 21-4 SU and 13-11-1 ATS in their next game with Mahomes at quarterback. Also over the last six seasons with Andy Reid at the helm, Kansas City is 6-0 SU on extended rest after a loss.
Eagles Look For 2-0 Start
The Eagles are also on extended rest after beating the Cowboys 24-20 in the NFL season opener on September 4th. The Eagles did not cover that game, and they were also a Ceedee Lamb drop away from potentially losing outright at home.
This is the eleventh time there has been a Super Bowl rematch in the following regular season. This trend favors Philadelphia, as the Super Bowl winner is 7-3 both SU and ATS in those matchups.
My Pick
I could definitely see this game going either way. The Eagles feel like a better team at this point, but this is a desperate situation for the Chiefs where it’s hard to fade Mahomes as a home dog.
Instead of picking a side or the total, I feel most confident backing Mahomes in the prop market - specifically his touchdowns prop. If you would have bet Mahomes to throw at least 2 touchdowns in every game after a loss in his career, your record would be 18-5. In a game of this magnitude, I expect one of the best to ever play the game to show out.
