Cards Continue Homestand

The St. Louis Cardinals can get back to the .500 mark tonight when they host the San Francisco Giants in the first of a three-game weekend series.

This is the first meeting between the two clubs this season, with the Redbirds taking five of the six matchups last year.

McGreevy Day = Winning Time?

It has now been six consecutive starts where Michael McGreevy has pitched 6 innings, and he’ll look for #7 tonight. He has been rock solid during this stretch with a 3.50 ERA.

Dating back to last season when he made his Major League debut, the Cardinals have a record of 13-3 when McGreevy pitches. That includes a game at the end of last season in San Francisco where McGreevy had arguably the best start of his career, tossing 8 innings of 1-run ball while allowing just 5 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts.

Giants Are Red-Hot

The Giants come to town on fire having won 10 of their last 11 games. Their offense has been scorching during this stretch with an average of 7.82 runs per game. The hot streak has pulled San Francisco to within 4 games of the Mets for the final NL Wild Card spot.

The Giants give the ball to Carson Seymour tonight. The right-hander is making just his second big league start and has primarily worked out of the bullpen this season. Seymour has a 4.74 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 24.2 innings across 11 games this year.

My Lean

It’s hard to bet against the red-hot Giants right now, but it’s also difficult to fade the Cardinals in a McGreevy start.

If you’re going to bet this one, I think the full game under is worth a look. The Giants just left Coors Field, so they may find things a little more difficult tonight on a cooler night at Busch Stadium against a surging McGreevy and a Cardinals bullpen that ranks 6th in MLB in ERA.

And while Seymour isn’t very impressive, I don’t expect him to work deep in the game, and he is backed by a San Francisco bullpen that has the second best ERA in baseball.

Lean: Under 8.5 at -115 on DraftKings
