Cards Look To Stun San Diego Again
The St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres will play the rubber game of their three-game series this afternoon at Petco Park.
The Redbirds stormed back from a 4-0 deficit last night to beat the Padres 8-5 and snap San Diego’s six-game winning streak.
Pallante Hopes To Keep Rolling
The Cardinals have had a difficult time stringing wins together lately, as they’ve won back-to-back games just once since June 29th.
Andre Pallante will be tasked with slowing down the Padres today. The right-hander tossed 7 scoreless innings and allowed just 1 hit in his last start against the Marlins. Pallante had another outing just like that on July 1st where he gave up only 1 hit in 7 shutout innings. But in his next start, Pallante got drilled by the Nationals for 7 runs in 6 innings.
Can Cease Get Straightened Out?
It has been an odd season for today’s San Diego starter Dylan Cease. The right-hander finished in the top 4 of the Cy Young voting two out of the last three years, and he has racked up tons of strikeouts this season with 153 K’s in 118.1 innings. However, Cease is 3-10 with a 4.79 ERA. He is definitely due for those numbers to improve, as he carries a 3.55 expected ERA. The 1.24 difference between ERA and xERA is the second-biggest among MLB starters.
The Cardinals will need to try to limit Luis Arraez in this one. The Padres first baseman and 3-time batting champion is currently riding a 15-game hitting streak. Arraez is 25-for-60 for a .417 average during the streak.
My Pick
I don’t like this spot for Pallante against a San Diego team that has the third fewest strikeouts in MLB. The Padres put a lot of balls in play, and after such a great start last time out, I think things will even up for Pallante here.
Cease is tough to figure out. He’s coming off a bad start, which makes me think he’ll have a good one today.
I’m taking the Padres -1.5 and tacking on Arraez to extend his hitting streak to 16 games for a bigger price. This dude is looking like Tony Gwynn out there right now with the way he’s locked in and spraying the ball all over the field.
Pick: Same Game Parlay priced at +154 on DraftKings - Padres -1.5 AND Luis Arraez to have 1+ hits (bet to +140)
