Cards, Royals Renew Rivalry
The St. Louis Cardinals open a nine-game homestand tonight at Busch Stadium against the Kansas City Royals. The Cards took two of three when these teams met last month in Kansas City.
The Redbirds are looking to bounce back from a series loss in Texas over the weekend where they managed just 4 total runs scored.
Redbirds Give Ball To Pallante
Andre Pallante makes the start for the Cardinals tonight. He had one of his best outings of the season last month against the Royals when he pitched 7 innings of 2-run ball in a 10-3 St. Louis win.
Pallante has been better at home (3.86 ERA) than on the road (4.43 ERA) this season. The Cardinals have a record of 7-4 this year with him on the mound.
Caglianone Makes MLB Debut
Itโs an exciting day for the Royals as they call up their top prospect Jac Caglianone to make his MLB debut. He is expected to be the everyday right fielder for Kansas City after slugging .322 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI with a .982 OPS in 199 minor league at-bats this season. Caglianone hopes to give a jolt to a Royals offense that ranks 28th in MLB averaging 3.23 runs per game this season.
The Royals give the ball to Michael Lorenzen, who got roughed up for 6 runs and 11 hits in 5 innings in a loss to Cincinnati in his last start.
My Lean
I think this is a tough game to call. Pallante is the hardest starter to predict for the Cardinals in my opinion, and while the Royals have been brutal offensively this season, the call-up of Caglianone could give them an extra bounce in their step this evening.
Iโm going to pass on this one, but if forced to make a bet, I would lean with the Royals to take the series opener. Lorenzen has enjoyed a lot of success against the Cardinals with a 2.51 ERA in 36 career games against them. The former Red has particularly enjoyed pitching at Busch Stadium where he has a 1.69 ERA in 17 career appearances.
Lean: Royals on the moneyline at +130 on DraftKings
