The St. Louis Battlehawks are hitting their stride at just the right time. In Week 9 against the San Antonio Brahmas, they delivered their sharpest performance of the season. One word comes to mind: crisp.
Quarterback Max Duggan played with confidence, looking poised, decisive, and accurate. Meanwhile, third-string quarterback Brandon Silvers showed veteran composure, completing 70% of his passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Third-string running back Kevon Latulas led a productive ground game, rushing for 66 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Wide receiver Hakeem Butler added a highlight-reel touchdown catch, while Jahcour Pearson broke out with 71 receiving yards on six receptions. Kicker Rodrigo Blankenship drilled both of his field goals, and the defense contributed a fumble recovery touchdown.
The Battlehawks wrap up the regular season on the road against the DC Defenders on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM CT. Expect a conservative game plan, as these two teams will meet again in the playoffs on Sunday, June 8 at 5 PM CT.
That playoff clash is shaping up to be the hottest ticket in town. With two well-coached, talented rosters, elite quarterbacks, and aggressive defenses, the difference may come down to special teams—and in that department, I’m taking Rodrigo.
