CITY Continues Road Swing

St. Louis CITY SC plays their third road game in eight days when they take on the Colorado Rapids this evening.

CITY got crushed 3-0 last Saturday at Minnesota in MLS action and then returned to Minnesota on Wednesday and got eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup with a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat after blowing a late lead.

CITY Allergic To Winning

CITY is now winless in their last ten MLS games with seven losses and three draws. The defense continues to be a major concern, as they have conceded two or more goals in their last six games against teams from MLS.

CITY has also struggled on the road this season with just one win, two draws, and five losses in their eight away games across all competitions.

Colorado Looking To Build Off Win

Colorado is coming off a 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake last weekend, which snapped a five-game winless run. The Rapids haven’t been scoring a ton of late, as they’ve notched zero or one goals in each of their last five games.

Colorado’s defense also isn’t in top form, as they’ve permitted two or more goals in six of their last eight games.

My Pick

We’ve been seeing some money coming in on CITY, as the odds have moved toward them today. These teams played a 0-0 draw in the season opener at Energizer Park, and CITY was the better team in that game. So it would not stun me for CITY to get a result here.

But my role as a betting analyst is not to provide you happy talk about the local teams - it’s to pick winners. And with a 6-2 record in my last eight picks on CITY games (mostly fading them), I’m inclined to keep betting against them.

Until they show me they can play well for a full 90 minutes, CITY is an automatic fade for me at a decent price - and Colorado to win the game at +100 is certainly a decent price. I just do not have confidence that CITY can put together a good performance defensively - in particular while on the road. And Colorado is a solid team residing in 7th place in the Western Conference.

I loved my bet of Minnesota -1 in last Saturday’s game and was rewarded handsomely. I don’t love this play, but I like it enough where it makes the cut to be on my card for Saturday.

Pick: Colorado Rapids on the moneyline at +100 on DraftKings (bet to -120)
