CITY, San Diego Meet For Second Time
St. Louis CITY SC looks to end a seven-game winless run in MLS play when they host San Diego FC on Saturday night at Energizer Park.
CITY has five losses and two draws during this stretch, including a 4-1 drubbing at Seattle in their last MLS game. This is the second meeting between CITY and San Diego this season, with the two teams playing to a 0-0 draw back on March 1st.
CITY Not Looking Great
CITY did pick up a 2-0 win over Union Omaha this past Wednesday in the U.S Open Cup Round of 32, but it was not exactly an impressive performance against a USL League One club. CITY generated just 2 big chances in the game according to Sofascore, and it took an absolute banger of a goal from Joey Zalinsky to open the scoring midway through the second half. Without that stunning strike, a 0-0 draw was looking like a strong possibility.
CITY also played a lot of their starters in that game with a win being an absolute necessity, so there could be some tired legs on the pitch this Saturday night.
San Diego Scoring In Bunches
San Diego did not have to play mid-week, so they’ll be fresher coming into this game. They are coming off a 5-0 blowout win over Dallas last Saturday.
San Diego is in 4th place in the Western Conference here in their inaugural season as an expansion club. They have scored 21 goals so far this season - only two MLS teams have scored more.
My Pick
Until CITY can win another MLS game, it’s going to be hard for me to back them. So my pick is to take San Diego in the draw no bet market at -105. That means I cash my ticket if San Diego wins the game, and the only way I lose is if CITY wins the game.
If this match ends in a draw, my bet would be a push - and I think that’s certainly possible. I could definitely see another draw playing out between these teams with a 0-0 or 1-1 scoreline, and San Diego has also not been playing well on the road lately with three straight losses.
But if someone is going to win this game, I think San Diego is more likely to do it because they have shown to be more dangerous offensively than CITY. That’s ultimately why I’ve landed on this pick, and I like having that push protection at a good price.
Pick: San Diego FC Draw No Bet at -105 on DraftKings (bet to -115)
