Nolan Arenado’s Walk-Off Homer Lifts Cardinals Past Brewers, 6-5

The St. Louis Cardinals (12-15) walked it off against the Milwaukee Brewers (13-15) with a 6-5 victory on Saturday afternoon at Busch Stadium, courtesy of Nolan Arenado’s solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The solo shot marked Arenado’s third walk-off homer with St. Louis and helped the Cardinals secure their first series win since defeating Houston on April 16.

Scoring Summary

2nd Inning

Nolan Gorman led off with a double to right field, advanced to third on a Thomas Saggese groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pedro Pagés to put the Cardinals up 1-0.

3rd Inning

Masyn Winn doubled to left field and scored on Lars Nootbaar’s ground-rule double to center. Nootbaar advanced to third on a groundout by Willson Contreras. Brendan Donovan followed with a double to left, scoring Nootbaar to extend the lead to 3-0.

4th Inning

Winn recorded his second double of the day. Nootbaar singled to center, bringing in Winn and moving to second on the throw. Contreras singled to second base, and an error by second baseman Brice Turang allowed Nootbaar to score, pushing the Cardinals ahead 5-0.

5th Inning

Victor Scott II made a highlight-reel diving catch to rob Jake Bauers of a hit.

Joey Ortiz and Caleb Durbin hit back-to-back doubles, with Durbin caught stealing second. After a Turang walk, Jackson Chourio doubled to left, scoring Turang and cutting the deficit to 5-2.

6th Inning

William Contreras and Rhys Hoskins singled. Bauers walked to load the bases before Ortiz grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Contreras while Bauers was out at second on a great stop by Saggese, trimming the lead to 5-3.

9th Inning

Ryan Helsley entered to close for the Cardinals.

Pinch-hitter Isaac Collins singled and Chourio followed with a two-run homer to tie the game at 5-5.

In the bottom half, Trevor Megill came in for Milwaukee. After Donovan lined out, Nolan Arenado delivered his sixth career walk-off home run — and third with the Cardinals — blasting a solo shot to left field to seal the 6-5 victory.

Game Notes

The Cardinals have won consecutive games for the first time since April 13-14.

Arenado's heroic homer was St. Louis’ fourth walk-off home run against the Brewers with Nolan having two of them.

St. Louis has hit 57 doubles through 27 games, their most in that span since 2015.

Cardinals ML (-155) cashed and the total score went OVER 7.5 (-102). Eric Sontag’s lean was good as the Cardinals flirted with another late collapse before recovering.

St. Louis will aim for the series sweep in Sunday’s finale at 1:15 p.m. CT. Erick Fedde is scheduled to start against Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana.
