Blues Back At It

The St. Louis Blues return to action after a two-week break when they host the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.

The Blues are being thrown right back into the fire facing the league’s best team, as the Jets have won eight straight games and lead the NHL with 81 points.

Battle Of The Backups?

There’s a good chance we see both backup goaltenders in this one with Jordan Binnington and Connor Hellebuyck returning to their teams after an intense two weeks starring for their respective countries in the 4 Nations Face-Off.

While Joel Hofer is more of a 1B to Binnington’s 1A for the Blues, Eric Comrie is the clear backup to Hellebuyck for Winnipeg. As good as the Jets have been this season, they are just 5-7-1 when Comrie is in between the pipes.

Oddsmakers Laying A Trap?

At first glance, Winnipeg available at -125 feels like a gift. Not only do they have the most points in the NHL, but the Jets have the most goals scored and the fewest goals allowed. They also have the league’s top power play unit, while the Blues penalty kill ranks 30th in the NHL.

However… this feels like the sportsbooks have laid a trap. I would imagine the public is going to be all over Winnipeg, but the data from this season suggests the Jets are just an ordinary team with Comrie in net.

My Lean

I always want to be transparent in these gambling previews. And frankly, I don’t want to touch this game. I have no idea how these teams are going to come out after a two-week layoff.

If forced to make a pick, I would side with the over because I do expect both backup goalies to play. Let’s hope for an entertaining game at Enterprise Center on what is a fantastic day in St. Louis sports.

Lean: Over 5.5 at -130 on DraftKings
