St Louis CITY SC has signed midfielder Conrad Wallem on loan from Slavia Praha. The 24-year-old Norwegian will spend one year with the team, with CITY holding a purchase option. He will occupy an international slot.

Wallem began his career with a strong youth showing, leading to a €1.5 million transfer to Slavia Praha, where his market value increased to €3 million. Despite interest from Preston North End, a transfer was blocked by Slavia. His form declined this season, reducing his value to €2.2 million and leading to fewer minutes on the field.

Now, under head coach Olof Mellberg, Wallem will have the opportunity to regain form in a new environment. Known for his versatility in the midfield, Wallem’s strengths include strong vision, ball composure, and defensive reliability.

Wallem could be a key asset in St. Louis CITY SC’s midfield, particularly as a right midfielder. His ability to create transitions and progress the ball fits well into the team’s fluid midfield system.

Statistics tell one story, but the eye test matters too—and he passes it. His tape shows a confident playmaker who could win the hearts of St. Louisans and sneak his way back into the conversation for bigger European teams. My favorite part of his game is his vision, but his aerial presence and composure with the ball at his feet cannot be overlooked.

Upon arrival following his ITC and Visa clearance, Wallem will join the team for preseason.

There are a lot of possibilities and variables, but a too-early lineup could look like:

Bürki

Kessler-Baumgartl-Nilsson

Wallem-Löwen-Ostrák-Hartel

Teuchert-Klauss-Pompeu

Bench options: Lundt, Olivares, Horn, Hiebert, Wentzel, Yaro, Totland, Reid, Alm, Durkin, Jake Girdwood-Reich, Perez, Vassilev, Watts, Becher, possibly Jääskeläinen.

The team is shaping up to have a deep roster as they head into their third MLS campaign.
