Cards Meet Mariners Again

The St. Louis Cardinals look to rebound from last night’s loss when they meet the Mariners in the second of a three-game set tonight in Seattle.

The Redbirds dropped the series opener last night 4-2 to fall to 31-39 on the road this season. The Mariners have been very good at home with a record of 42-27.

Redbirds Send Liberatore To Mound

Matthew Liberatore hopes to build off his strongest start of the second half when he heads to the hill tonight. The left-hander tossed 5.1 shutout innings his last time out against the Athletics while allowing just 4 hits with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.

The Mariners have fared well against left-handed starters this season with a record of 23-18. They rank 12th in MLB in OPS against southpaws this season, including 10th over the last 30 days.

Mariners Turn To Kirby

The Mariners are winners of three in a row and send George Kirby to the mound this evening. The right-hander didn’t make his season debut until May 22nd due to injury, and he has a career-worst ERA of 4.47.

It has been a mixed bag for Kirby lately. His last four starts have included two quality starts, but in the other two, he got pummeled for 7 earned runs in each one. Kirby is pitching in his preferred park tonight though, as he has a 3.16 ERA at home compared to a 5.74 ERA on the road.

My Lean

This is a tough game to call. If you’re going to bet it, I’d take a shot on the Cardinals to win at a big plus money price. Liberatore has had his innings limited here in the second half, but after dominating an A’s team last time out that typically crushes lefties, hopefully he is ready to close the season with a strong finishing kick.

I tend to believe Kirby will have a bounceback start, but I think Seattle is overvalued at the -217 moneyline price. The Cardinals are a .500 team, which means after they lose a game, it’s not a bad idea to back them to turn things around the next night.

Lean: Cardinals on the moneyline at +175 on DraftKings
